Through my work, I explore the concept of liberation. What it means to be truly free. How much do physical restraint and intimidation truly affect us? How about norms, values and duties forcibly imposed on us? Can one "break" free? Does one need to even?

I was born and raised in a conservative society that stifle individualism and critical thinking skills, where rote learning and conformity were encouraged, and questioning authorities would lead to swift retribution. It took years of living among diverse cultures across different countries to unlearn the deeply ingrained fear and to relearn the courage to openly challenge and question "Why? Why not?"

In addition to the symbolic elements, the process of making is an integral part of the final design. I very rarely have a "blueprint" to follow along. Instead, I engage in a dialogue with the piece. I start off with a vague design/idea in mind and as I make, I would actively respond to any changes or "discovery," choosing which parts to keep and which to keep pushing. It is in this dialogue that liberation takes root. All preconceived ideas and notions are left out to be questioned and challenged. As I respond and alter the form, each act becomes an assertion of individuality, a quiet rebellion against imposed constraints. Each piece is infused with its own narrative and identity.

Through my work, I invite the viewers to join me in this conversation.
